Yesterday something special happened. Yesterday the 50th person to contribute online this year gave their support for our efforts to strengthen our families, community and Commonwealth.

Yesterday was special because when I ran in 2007 it took until June 30th - 182 days - before 50 people had contributed online. This year it only took 42 days.

But this week is also special because one year ago Democrats across Virginia and the 50th District came to the polls in record numbers. The presidential primary revealed 6,436 Democrats in the 50th District who cared deeply about the future of their country and their community.

I worked alongside hundreds of these committed Democrats as we invited our neighbors to join our campaign for change. And on Election Night we saw 12,679 people in the 50th District - 57% - vote for hope and change and for Barack Obama.

Even though it would have been easy to quit after the 2007 election, I didn't give up on the families of Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William. Now, after seeing the potential strength Democrats have in the 50th District, I'm more committed than ever before to strengthening our communities and ensuring everyone has access to a better quality of life and the opportunity to succeed.
