Virginia House of Delegates | District 50
This past weekend the most widely distributed paper in the 50th district, The Washington Post, endorsed Jeanette Rishell for the November 3rd election. The Post cited Jeanette opponent’s ability to campaign on one thing but “once in Richmond he dropped the subject”.
The Post went on to praise Jeanette as “A smart civic activist”. Recognizing the importance of the upcoming budget issues facing our community the Post believes that Jeanette is “more likely to be effective in the upcoming funding battles for education and transportation.”
Over the course of this campaign Jeanette has talked to thousand of voters who agree that Manassas needs a new day. Manassas needs a solution to our transportation problems. Manassas needs a plan for new jobs. Manassas needs a Delegate who will stand up for us, not one who will make what the News and Messanger labeled a “Devil’s Bargin” when turning his back on sick children.
Manassas needs Jeanette Rishell.
But, before next Tuesday, Jeanette needs YOUR help.
Every hour you volunteer between now and next Tuesday can help Jeanette find 3 more voters. Every hour can make the difference between a politics based in division or a politics based in moving forward.
To volunteer call our office at 571-208-0394 or email field@jeanetterishell.org.
Today's edition of the News and Messenger included this article about Jeanette's meet-and-greet at Oh So Sweet Treats bakery in downtown Manassas, and Jeanette's plans to "make life sweeter for small businesses":
In a short speech at Oh So Sweet Treats in Old Town, [Jeanette Rishell] said she’s running against incumbent Republican Jackson H. Miller to “strengthen our families, our communities and our commonwealth.”
“We need change from the tired old ideas of the party of ‘no,’” she said, recalling President Barack Obama’s “change” mantra while admonishing the GOP.
In addition, relevant to her location at the Battle Street establishment, the 50th District hopeful said that 75 percent to 85 percent of new job growth in Virginia is projected to come from small businesses.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate R. Creigh Deeds has mentioned this figure during his campaign against Republican Robert F. McDonnell.
And, in an interview after Tuesday’s event, Rishell said that, if elected, she would introduce legislation to carry out another one of the Bath County state senator’s economic plans.
Right now, Virginia’s small businesses can offset losses against income in two previous years. Deeds proposes allowing companies to expand that offset period to five years.
Rishell also said small businesses — those with 50 or fewer employees — should be able to offer their workers health care through the insurance plan used by state employees.
(emphasis added)
The News & Messenger reported what Jeanette and campaign staff were doing over the weekend:
Jeanette Rishell, a Democrat who is challenging Del. Jackson H. Miller, participated in two public service events last week.
On Friday, she and campaign workers helped with a Habitat for Humanity project on Yorkshire Lane near Manassas.
Then on Saturday, she and members of the Manassas/ Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee cleaned up a portion of Hastings Drive, which they watch over as a part of the “Adopt-A-Street” program.
Please contact the campaign if you'd like to join future service projects.
Because of the overwhelming support we received last month, we were able to purchase 30,000 fantastic brochures to take our message of bringing meaningful change in the House of Delegates to voters. Thank you so much to all those who helped make this happen!
In order to put those brochures where they need to be -- in the hands of Democratic voters and recent registrants -- we have brought on an amazing field team: Director Mike and Organizers Trent and Andrew. In the week since we began taking our literature to neighborhoods and engaging voters in our campaign, they have knocked on 1,700 doors! In one week! Incredible!
This is an experienced and hard-working team, and they are dedicated to making this campaign successful. But in order to reach enough voters to win, we have to continue to raise the resources to support them. Will you help me and my field team succeed by contributing today?
To reach the voters of the 50th and make sure they come to support me at the polls, we need to knock on tens of thousands of doors. To reach this goal, we're going to need even more field organziers and we're going to need to ensure we have enough to fully fund their essential work.
Your donation of $150, $75 or even $50 will help reward Mike, Trent, and Andrew for their tremendous efforts and will ensure we can add even more organizers. Together we can fight for the values we all share and for the future of our Commonwealth.
Thank you,
Jeanette
I just wanted to post a quick note thanking everyone that came out for our phonebank and Ilana's birthday party. Ilana was very happy with all the people that came to help her celebrate and talk with voters. Thank you so much for all your hard work. Please continue to help us...election day is approaching fast.

Our campaign is going very well. My campaign manager Ilana has hired a large field staff who will be knocking on thousands of doors in the 50th District this summer. Our brochures are heading to the printer as you read this. But I'd like to print more.
Can you make a contribution right now to help us print more brochures? We've got a great deal - 2-sided, full-color, sturdy brochures for only 30 cents each - and we want to get as many into the hands of the voters this summer as possible. Can you help us raise $3,000 for 10,000 more brochures?
$30 will buy 100 brochures. $75 will buy 250 brochures. $150 can help us reach 500 more voters. $300 will buy 1,000 brochures for an election in which fewer than 20,000 voters will cast ballots.
We can't wait much longer. Our field organizers will start the second week of July and we need to be ready. But if we can raise $3,000 before June 30 we can print an additional 10,000 brochures and put our message of hope for Virginia's families in the hands of the same people who gave Barack Obama 57% of the vote in the 50th District last November.
Will you please make a contribution right now and help us win?
Best Regards,
Jeanette
Please join me for the opening of my campaign office in Old Town Manassas. Come see the new office, hear about the campaign and enjoy some food.
Regards,
Jeanette

I have great news: 300 people have contributed to our campaign for stronger families, stronger communities and a stronger Commonwealth!
The March 31st deadline for contributions is fast approaching, and we need to raise $3,000 online to show Virginia our positive message will be successful this November. Now is the time to make a contribution of $10, $20 or $50 to help us reach this goal!
Each of us knows what is at stake. The direction Virginia takes, whether to move confidently into the 21st century or slide backwards, will be determined by the outcome of this November's elections.
I am fighting for the ideals that make our Commonwealth a great place to live and work. Together we can leave a better Virginia for our children and grandchildren.
Thank you,
Jeanette
The momentum is building.
Three weeks ago I asked you to join the first 50 people to contribute online to our efforts to to strengthen our families, community and Commonwealth. I'm proud to announce that Monday Ellen Carlson of Norfolk was the 100th person to contribute online!
The first 50 contributions came in six weeks. The next 50 contributions arrived in three weeks!
It's time for you to be a part of the growing excitement about the change that is coming to the 50th District in 2009. Together we can replace the old politics of fear and division with a new vision of hope and unity.
Please make a contribution right now and be part of the next 50 people working to bring hope and change to the 50th district.
Thanks,
Jeanette
Yesterday something special happened. Yesterday the 50th person to contribute online this year gave their support for our efforts to strengthen our families, community and Commonwealth.
Won't you join us and make a contribution to be a part of the next 50 for the 50th?
Yesterday was special because when I ran in 2007 it took until June 30th - 182 days - before 50 people had contributed online. This year it only took 42 days.
But this week is also special because one year ago Democrats across Virginia and the 50th District came to the polls in record numbers. The presidential primary revealed 6,436 Democrats in the 50th District who cared deeply about the future of their country and their community.
I worked alongside hundreds of these committed Democrats as we invited our neighbors to join our campaign for change. And on Election Night we saw 12,679 people in the 50th District - 57% - vote for hope and change and for Barack Obama.
Click here and make a contribution to join the next 50 for the 50th!
Even though it would have been easy to quit after the 2007 election, I didn't give up on the families of Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William. Now, after seeing the potential strength Democrats have in the 50th District, I'm more committed than ever before to strengthening our communities and ensuring everyone has access to a better quality of life and the opportunity to succeed.
We've come too far to stop here. Please make a contribution right now and be part of the next 50 people working to bring hope and change to the 50th district.
Thanks,
Jeanette
